Passports and Visas

It is the passengers responsibility to have a valid passport to travel on this trip. The passport must be valid for at least six months after the intended date of departure from Africa and have at least two blank pages (with Visa at the top of the page) available for each country we are visiting. A passport and visa are required to enter Zambia.  A single-entry visa may be obtained at a port of entry for $50 and is valid for only ninety days. You need a passport, visa, return ticket, and adequate funds to cover your intended stay in order to enter Zimbabwe. If you are traveling to Zimbabwe for tourism, business, or transit, you may obtain a visa at the airports or other border ports-of-entry. There is currently no option of getting a Zimbabwean tourist visa in advance through the Zimbabwean Embassy in Washington. You can expect to pay 30 USD for a 30-day/single-entry visa or 60 USD for a 60-day/multiple entry visa. Extensions are possible, and require visiting the Zimbabwe Immigration Office’s public window. Travelers who intend to engage in any non-tourism related activity require a visa in advance of entry. Contact the Department of Immigration Zimbabwe for further details and information on other types of visas and entry permits.

Careful planning can ensure that you will have a safe, healthy stay in beautiful Southern Africa, Zambia, Zimbabwe and the United Arab Emirates,

Yellow Fever. Travelers entering South Africa from countries where yellow fever is endemic will be required to prove inoculation from the disease.

Malaria. Most of South Africa is malaria-free.  Furthermore, for the short-term traveler the recommended vaccinations for South Africa usually consist of cover against Tetanus and Diphtheria, Hepatitis A and Typhoid.

It is strongly suggested that you obtain all necessary vaccinations and immunizations prior to leaving the USA. Please consult your personal physician and your local health department to obtain the latest list of required shots and follow their instructions.

The risks to health while travelling will vary between individuals and many issues need to be taken into account, e.g. activities abroad, length of stay and general health of the traveler. It is recommended that you consult with your General Practitioner, Nurse Practitioner, Physician Assistant or local health department 6-8 weeks in advance of travel. They will assess your particular health risks before recommending vaccines and /or antimalarial tablets. This is also a good opportunity to discuss important travel health issues including safe food and water, accidents, sun exposure and insect bites. Many of the problems experienced by travelers cannot be prevented by vaccinations and other preventive measures need to be taken.

Measles occurs worldwide and is common in developing countries. The pre-travel consultation is a good opportunity to check that you are immune, either by previous immunization or natural measles infection.

It is prudent that you make sure that you are fully insured for medical emergencies including repatriation. Most US medical insurance plans do not cover medical costs overseas!!
